Frequently asked questions

The app

Does BentoPDF work offline?

Yes, completely. Every feature, including OCR and file conversion, runs on your computer. You can use BentoPDF with no internet connection at all.

Can I edit the text of an existing PDF?

Yes. Click into any paragraph and type, just like a text document. BentoPDF preserves the original fonts, spacing and layout while you edit.

Is my data private?

Your documents never leave your computer. BentoPDF does no cloud processing and sends no document content anywhere, so confidential files stay confidential.

Which platforms does BentoPDF support?

BentoPDF runs on macOS 12 or later (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows 10 or later, and major Linux distributions.

Can I convert Word, Excel and PowerPoint files?

Yes, in both directions. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, HTML and EPUB files convert to PDF, and PDFs export back to editable Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Trial and licensing

How does the free trial work?

Your first launch starts a 7-day trial with every feature unlocked. No account, no credit card, and it keeps working offline.

What happens when the trial ends?

The app asks for a license key. Buy once, paste the key from your email, and you are done. Your documents are never touched.

How many computers can I use it on?

A license is for one computer, on macOS, Windows or Linux. Moving to a new machine is easy: deactivate on the old one and activate on the new one.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only once, to activate your key. After that BentoPDF verifies your license entirely on your computer and works fully offline.

How does buying for a team work?

You buy the number of seats you need in one checkout, then invite people by email from your order page. Each person gets their own license key, and you can add, remove or reassign people at any time. Larger teams pay less per seat, and it is all on one invoice.

Can we activate computers that have no internet?

Yes. Organizations can license fully offline (air-gapped) machines: the app exports a small request file, an admin turns it into a license file on any online computer, and the offline machine imports it. See the Offline Activation page in the footer.
