About us
We build the PDF editor we always wanted: fast, private, and complete.
Our open source roots
BentoPDF started in the open. The original BentoPDF is a browser-based, privacy-first PDF toolkit where every file is processed entirely on your device, with nothing uploaded to any server. It grew to more than 14,000 stars on GitHub and millions of downloads, is self-hostable, and remains free and open source today.
The desktop app is that same idea, taken as far as it can go: more speed, deeper editing, and the full toolkit working completely offline.
Why BentoPDF exists
PDF software has drifted into two bad options: heavyweight suites that feel slow and demand subscriptions, or web converters that ask you to upload confidential documents to someone else's server. We did not want either, so we built the third option.
BentoPDF is a desktop app where everything happens on your computer. Opening a document is instant, editing text feels like a word processor, and no page you work on is ever sent anywhere.
What we believe
- Documents are private. Processing happens on-device, full stop.
- Software should be fast. A thousand-page file should open before you blink.
- Buy once, own it. A lifetime license, not another subscription.
- Every tool included. One app covers the whole job, from OCR to redaction.
Who's behind it
BentoPDF is designed, built and supported by one independent developer. No investors, no growth team, no dark patterns. When you email support, you are talking to the person who wrote the code.
